Secret Sauce (16A)

My Human Capital —

here are five ways/characteristics that make me unique.

1. I am a Teacher. Don’t get me wrong, I do not want to be a teacher because I think I would get way too bored quickly but I do enjoy teaching other people how to do things I love.
2. I am Generous. I love giving in relationships, sometimes too much. I love to give gifts, time, and words of affirmation to the people I love and work with.
3. I am Empathetic. I am very proficient in relating with people and love just learning about people’s stories: where they come from, what they want to do, why they believe they are here...wherever here may be.
4. I have barista experience. There are plenty of barista’s out there but I currently work at Starbucks and plan to take my skills to a craft coffee shop in Gainesville to learn even more.
5. I am a Disciple Maker. Once again, being a member of the Christian faith is not necessarily a unique experience, there are many Christian like me. But, it IS a defining part of my personality and identity and where all my motivation and passions stem from: my love for Jesus Christ which compels me to make disciples and be discipled by other believers.

My dad, Mike, said that I am determine, creative, and am a servant leader. Most importantly he said, I care a lot about people.

Reflection —

A common thread among these responses is that I am kind, driven, and have a knack for being emotionally intuitive. I think all of these characteristics can contribute to me being a manager of The Mount. Something I wasn't expecting is that I am "blunt." Most times I would say blunt has a negative connotation but thinking more, I usually do say what's on my mind, so that makes sense.

Fun Fact: This assignment got me thinking and I came up with something fun I want to do at The Mount to cultivate fun barista culture. Every week, a different baristas will have the opportunity to customize their own “secret sauce” or craft specialty latte; within reason, and as long as it tastes good. Ingredients won’t be revealed until the end of the week.

  1. Hey!
This is probably one of my favorite assignments in this class. It is nice to see what your friends and parents think of you, and how you reflect on yourself. I found it hard to find things out of my "human capital". I like the reflection of yourself. Blunt can be negative, but i find it a positive connotation. Entrepreneurs need to be blunt to get to where they are going, so you have all the potential of being one.

  2. Hey Juliana! I found your human characteristics very important. Empathy is especially crucial in capturing the consumer's perspective. I think your interviews support all of your characteristics, if not more. Also, after following your blogs, I can affirm with a lot of your characteristics. They will all play an important role in your success with your journey.

  3. Juliana,
It's a great thing that this assignment got you reflecting on yourself and your characteristics. College is the vital years of transformation and growth that are necessary for us to enter the business world, if there is any tuning up and tweaking of our business personas, it should be done now. I personally think that your humor and agreeableness while still being able to be direct and honest with people will get you farther as people will be able to trust your opinion when you recommend your coffee shop over the competition.
